Located just west of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in Delafield, Circle Social () works as a full-service Social New Media Agency. Circle Social prides itself on helping their clients leverage multiple social and new media channels to increase revenue. Started in April of 2010, owner Craig Sweeney focuses on helping all small and mid-sized businesses with a particular focus in the Food & Beverage and Active Lifestyle industries.
I sat down with Craig to find out more about his history, start-up, and where he sees Circle Social headed this year. Craig began his career with several larger marketing agencies who worked with clients through several different channels including the emerging technology of social media. Craig said that the common thread he saw through his agency experience was that clients were not sure how to integrate social and new media into their overall marketing and advertising strategy. Pairing that ambition with his knowledge of social media, social gaming, and video marketing, Craig had his start-up idea…and Circle Social was born.
Craig says that Circle Social has it’s origins in social media management. Since many small and mid-sized companies lack the knowledge or the time to handle these efforts, Circle Social can offer a variety of solutions to help clients manage their online reputation and build brand awareness while still having the time to run their businesses. Circle Social offers a three pronged effort of strategy, management, and measurement to help ensure clients are seeing results instead of random interactions. Circle Social has grown into a new media agency and they now produce “film quality” videos for clients to help tell their stories visually, something Craig feels is critically important for all business because many of them have compelling stories to tell but may not know the best way to go about it. Additionally, Craig and his team have built far-reaching distribution channels to ensure that their client’s story is seen by their target audience, wherever they may be.
Social gaming is another part of Circle Social’s offering for clients. Craig explained that he feels that integrating an interactive game or microsite into a client’s website helps make it more “sticky”—the act of keeping visitors on a site longer by interacting with them. This also encourages visitors to share the site with their friends.
When I asked him about his plans for 2011, Craig listed many hopes for growth, new and future business, and expansion. More than anything, Craig is looking forward to continuing to build a great local company, and looks to build strong client relationships on a regional and national scale as well. That sounds like great news for not only Craig and Circle Social, but the city of Milwaukee and the rest of the nation as well.
Thank you to Chris Taylor with Circle for putting me in touch with Craig and for joining us for this interview in what had to be the coldest corner of Starbucks!
